David Simmons:
David Simmons was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. He worked in his father’s foundry during his teen years. He learned to make cores in the foundry and learned several skills in the machine shop, culminating in running a lathe.
David entered the ROTC program at the University of Richmond in Virginia. He received his diploma one day and his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army the next day.
In June of 1990, he entered training at Ft. Rucker, Al eventually earning his helicopter pilot’s wings.
David’s military career took him to different Cavalry units in Germany where he flew air reconnaissance missions in the Kiowa Warrior attack helicopter. His career culminated with a Troop Command at Ft. Stewart, Ga. In 1998, he made the decision to leave the military having earned numerous awards and military decorations including the prestigious Airborne wings and Air Assault wings. He joined his dad, Jim Simmons, as a Manufacturer’s Representative and became a full partner in the firm in 2004.
David’s contribution to Component Sales Group includes gaining new ‘Principals’ including their gear manufacturer, metal fabricator and offshore engineering and sourcing principal. These principals play key roles in the agency’s strategic plan. In 2005, David enrolled in the three year Certified Professional Manufacturer’s Representative course offered by the Manufacturer’s Representatives Educational Research Foundation, www.mrerf.org and recognized by the Manufacturers Agents National Association, www.manaonline.org. David has recently completed the course, complete with his diploma. Manufacturer’s Representatives who gain the CPMR designation are considered to be the best in the industry.
David is married to the former Michelle Weekley and they have two children. David enjoys deer and duck hunting. He’s on the board of directors for a non-profit organization dedicated to helping inner-city at-risk youth, and he was recently elected to the Vestry of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church.
